The Arts Council

November 5, 2019 at 7:30pm

In 2016, Gaelynn Lea won NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Contest, and she’s been on the road ever since playing her unique mix of haunting original songs and traditional fiddle tunes. Gaelynn performs from her electric wheelchair and began playing violin 25 years ago after a creative music teacher helped her adapt a playing style that suits her frame. She holds her instrument like a tiny cello and loops her classically trained rhythms and melodies.

On November 5, she will be at the Hanesbrands Theatre, joined by the Martha Bassett Band as a part of Creative Conversations (an Arts Council program that consists of conversations focused on building community through art). In addition to performing Gaelynn’s original works, Gaelynn and Martha will discuss Gaelynn’s life and work as an artist.

Sponsored by Wake Forest Baptist Health, The Martha Bassett Show, and The Arts Council.
